A-10 Championship to remain in Atlantic City

02/27/2008 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Atlantic 10 commissioner Linda Bruno announced on Wednesday that the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships will remain in Atlantic City's famed Boardwalk Hall.

The 2007 A-10 Championship was in Atlantic City, as is the upcoming 2008 tourney

"I am extremely pleased to make this announcement," Bruno said. "Our first year in Atlantic City was a tremendous success and with the exciting season our teams are currently enjoying, this year promises to be even better.

"Boardwalk Hall provides a tremendous setting for college basketball and every seat puts fans right on top of the action. The feedback from students, alumni, fans, and the Atlantic City community last year was extremely positive and we look forward to a long and successful stay in Atlantic City."

Boardwalk Hall, which first opened in 1929, underwent a three-year, $90 million renovation to transform the building into a modern special events arena capable of variable seating for up to 14,500 people.

"We are thrilled that the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship will be calling Atlantic City home for another year," said Jeffrey Vasser, executive director of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. "It will be our pleasure to work with the A-10 staff in order to make the 2009 year as successful as these past years have been. I think fans will agree that Atlantic City is a perfect setting for the Championship."

The 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship will take place from March 11-14. This year's A-10 Championship will be held from March 12-15.

After praising his leadership and work ethic through spring workouts, the Chiefs announced Tuesday they had signed the 27-year-old Cassel to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed, but he will almost certainly be one of the highest-paid members of the team.
"We are excited to be able to reach a long-term agreement for Matt Cassel to be a Kansas City Chief for many years to come," owner and board chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "His proven leadership on and off the field will be a tremendous asset to the organization."
Patriots made him their franchise player, meaning his salary for this season will be about $15 million.
New head coach Todd Haley, taking over for Herm Edwards after a 2-14 season, refused to name a starter at any position during offseason workouts. But it was obvious to everyone the team belonged to Cassel.
"I go out there each and every day with that focus that I'm the starter," Cassel said during a June minicamp. "Competition brings out the best in everybody."

Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who had been Bill Belichick's assistant in New England, engineered the trade after the Patriots became convinced that Brady would recover fully from his knee operation.
"Since Matt arrived in Kansas City, he has embraced the team and the community," Pioli said. "His work ethic, his ability and competitive presence is what we expect from our players."
